Not Throwing Away My Shot: Welcome to Dragons 2021!

Dear Dragons GC Members:

We are sure that just about everybody is ready to move on from #2020, annus horribilis, and get going with 2021, the Year of the Ox. There is light at the end of the pandemic tunnel — at last, vaccine shots are going into arms, and we are ready to play golf and compete again.

The 2021 Dragons GC schedule may be the strongest in our history, thanks to our own members:

April 10              Stone Tree

May 1                 BlackHorse

June 7                Mayacama GC, sponsored by Jeff Yee and Paul Nakada

July 15               Green Valley CC, sponsored by Chris Chong

August 15           Green Hills G&CC, sponsored by Jon Chong

September 13     Lake Merced GC, sponsored by Lawrence Ma

October 17          Wente Vineyard

This is the first time we are featuring four private club outings in one season — our thanks Jeff, Paul, Chris, Jon and Lawrence for sponsoring us at these amazing clubs.  Stone Tree, BlackHorse and Wente Vineyard are nothing to sneeze at, each perennially among the very best daily fee courses in the state.
This is the way, the way of the Dragons.

Prudence would have us delay the resumption of the Weekender, our annual summertime intra-club Ryder Cup matches, until 2022.  The Club Match Play bracket and The Bucket List will also wait a year as well.

But we are bringing everything else back in 2021 — the Dragon Cup, the season-long points race for the club championship will resume*, and so will the Kirin Cup, in recognition of the golfer with the lowest gross scoring in 2021. The Club will field entries into the NCGA Associate Club Four Ball, Associate Club Championship and the Net Amateur.  New members who joined us in 2020 will be eligible for the 2021 Rookie of the Year race, and we will also recognize the Most Improved Player of the Year.  We are hopeful that we will be able to gather in person once again for our Holiday Party & Awards Banquet at the Olympic Club, on or about November 21, 2021.

As you know, your 2020 membership dues were carried forward by the Board into 2021, so you’re paid up and ready to go for 2021.  And guess what?  Swag is back!  We do have a 2021 Dragon members gift — a beautiful custom YETI flask — ready for you to pick up, starting at the Season Opener.

The Dragons GC will continue to cap its membership at 55 to 60 max each year, and there are still a few spots left for the 2021 season.  The club is accepting new applicants — two member-sponsors are required for admission; those who do not have two members sponsoring them must play at least one round with our members.  The newly updated DGC membership application can be accessed online here:  https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfgU5pkE-jDV6PlMLCAiBePxN4zqySxFPESQeB3AHqzJapYNQ/viewform

As the rain clouds part and the flowers bloom again in Augusta, start working on your game and let’s go play golf!

Sincerely,

THE BOARD

*The 2021 Dragons Cup Race:  If COVID-19 restrictions lead to cancellation of more than two (2) of our seven (7) scheduled tournaments during 2021, the Dragon Cup Race will be re-evaluated by the Board, possibly suspended and postponed until 2022.  We will issue Dragon Cup points only if there are at least sixteen (16) players participating in a given 2021 club tournament.  At least five (5) tournaments must be completed with a minimum of sixteen (16) players to constitute a valid 2021 Dragon Cup race.  No Dragon Cup points will be awarded for Chinese Golf Federation invitationals in 2021, due to uncertainties with the Federation tournaments, but Dragon Cup points will be awarded for participation in NCGA tournaments.  Consult club website for detailed allocations of points.
