SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - When Jonathan Wong and Fuzzy Pourahmadi sat down with Lawrence Ma in 2009 to sketch out their dream associate golf club, the intention was to make it the absolute very best in the business. The trio met up with Wes, Alex & Jon Chong, from whom Lawrence learned to play tournament golf through their Good Guys Chinese Golf Club, and the Dragons Golf Club was born.
The ensuing decade saw the rebranded start-up club ("with an edge") grow into the premier Asian-American associate club in the West. A schedule of only the best high-end daily fee courses and the occasional private club was enhanced by the season-long Dragon Cup points race and association with the Chinese Golf Federation. A unique tradition of camaraderie was rooted in competition and respect of your fellow members -- no bailing out early if you want to win a prize, and a proper year-end club champions' dinner at The Olympic Club. And while we're at it, on with the pursuit of the ultimate golf experiences -- from the Weekender to the Bucket List trips that have taken us everywhere from Bandon to Pinehurst.
It would seem that after a decade, we have arrived.
In the Spring 2021 edition of the NCGA Magazine, the Northern California Golf Association recognized The Dragons in a feature called "The Spectrum of NCGA Clubs: Sharing a Love for The Game." This is a testament to the entire Dragons family, particularly the founding members and all those who served on the board since 2009. Our thanks to the members and alumni who have continued to proudly support The Dragons. As we look forward to a full and complete return to our way of doing business at Mayacama in June, here's to a great new decade for the Dragons Golf Club.
