LIVERMORE, Calif.- If the weather was any indication, it was an auspicious start to the season for the Dragons at Poppy Ridge Golf Course. The weather was perfect and the setting picturesque, with splashes of color on the surrounding green hills from the wildflowers after all the recent rains. Eighteen members and one guest gathered to welcome in the new season, reunite with golf buddies, and battle for the first Dragons points of the year.
While some member’s games were clearly slow to come out of hibernation, others were out of the gate early.
In the A flightChris Wong led the pack with a gross 80/net 70 to take 1stplace. Kevin Lum played the steady game, with drives down the middle of the fairway all day, taking 2nd place with 83/net 72. And fresh off his 8thconsecutive win of the Kirin Cup for Club Low Gross Player of the Year, Mike Lum took 3rdplace with a 77/net 74. Big Mike also took home the prize for low gross of the field. Will someone not come out and challenge this man?!

In the B flight, nursing injuries, but sporting snazzy new sticks, Mieko Sugimoto posted the best score of the day in either flight, taking first place handily with an 84/net 68. We can only fear what she will be able to do once she’s fully recovered! Second and third place were won by Jason Shu (97/net 76) and Jason Yee (94/net 77), respectively.
The closest to the pin competitions were won in the A flight by Mike Gui (Hole #3 and #7), and Kevin Lum (Hole #11 and #16). In the B flight, Jason Yee took #3, Jason Shu won #7 and #11, and Kellen Tsuruoka prevented a sweep by the Jasons by winning #16.
